On 1 January 2017 the 11 districts of Albula, Bernina, Hinterrhein, Imboden, Inn, Landquart, Maloja, Moesa, Plessur, Prättigau-Davos and Surselva were reorganized to 11 regions (see below). 9 of the 11 former districts were renamed to regions, while keeping their territorial expansion, but mostly with a new number of communes (including mergers). The districts of Hinterrhein and Inn were dissolved. The regions of Engiadina Bassa/Val Müstair and Viamala were newly created. The subdivisions of the former districts, the circles, were dissolved (Clickable maps of former GR districts and former GR circles).
