The flag is canting with the fleur-de-lis above the triangle, which stands for a rock. Surses is Romansh for "above the rock/stone". The German name for Surses is Oberhalbstein.
On 1 January 2016 the new commune of Surses was formed through the merger of Bivio, Cunter, Mamorera,
Mulegns, Riom-Parsonz, Salouf, Savognin, Sur and Tinizong-Rona (see below).
The emblem of the new commune is the emblem of the former Surses circle, which is identical with the
new commune.

On the 11th of August 1998, the Municipal assembly of Tinizong-Rona has adopted the new blazon
of this commune born after the fusion of Tinizong and Rona.
The new flag of Tinizong-Rona combines the flag of Tinizong in the upper part and the Tau
cross from the flag of Rona in the lower part.
