Beauvais-sur-Matha (653 inhabitants in 2021; 1,248 ha) is a commune in the department of Charente-Maritime.

The human occupation is very old as shown by the carved flints and the fragments of polished axes found between Beauvais and Massac.
The commandery of Beauvais-sur-Matha is reputed to have been founded in 1151 by the Templar Guillaume de Mauzé, but the document which serves as the basis for this dating is controversial, due to the blatant anachronisms it contains. The first document considered authentic dates from 1231.
