Vista Hermosa was established on April 13, 1964 and erected on November 29, 1969.

The flag's official description is as follows: "Encontramos el color azul celeste, que representa el patrimonio humano como fuente de vida de todas las especies animales y vegetales. El color verde, hace énfasis a las extensas llanuras y parte de la vistosa Sierra de la Macarena. El color Blanco, simboliza la paz y la reconciliación que tanto anhela un pueblo que ha sido flagelo de la violencia. Las ochenta y cuatro (84) estrellas de color azul oscuro, representan cada una de las veredas que conforman nuestro municipio."

(English: We find the light blue color, which represents human heritage as a source of life for all animal and plant species. The green color emphasizes the extensive plains and part of the showy Sierra de la Macarena. The white color symbolizes the peace and reconciliation that a people that has been the scourge of violence longs for. The eighty-four (84) dark blue stars represent each of the paths that make up our municipality).
